The Kitchen is the center of the universe. All that is, seen and unseen, has its beginning in the Kitchen. All things are drawn to the Kitchen, from which all good, tasty things are made. Amen

My dearest and I went out on Sunday night after she got off work. We went to La Isla in Ballard; enjoyed a class of wine and a small meal.

We started to talk about April Fools Day; she talked about the rules of April Fool pranks in her family - what is appropriate and what is cruel. Naturally, I had forgotten my recorder at home. Ditz moi!

I wonder what has been written about April Fool traditions in scholarly journals. I would be interested to hear (and record) stories about April Fool pranks, traditions and rules.

Back to work with me.

I miss staying up all night in an irresponsible manner listening to rock'n'roll and getting wasted or high. I miss being a slacker.

Well I am off to Boston at the cheery hour of 05.15. As usual I am nervous. I still dislike flying as much as I did last time.

I am in Boston for two days, then I am off to New York. Goodie. And the weather is finally getting colder over there just in time for my arrival. At least it won't be as cold as the last time I was there. It was 24 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. And this time I know I am going to Boston and I am prepared with many layers. Last time I was there I only had a suit and one wool sweater. Brrrr. My boss sent me to the South and then halfway there had me head off to Boston instead.

I look forward to crisp cold air, green copper roofed churches and a group of really cool Italian guys. It is certain I will get very drunk with them.

I hope every one is very warm. At least we are not in Barrow, Ak. Supposed to be -15 tonight.

I have had a wonderful weekend. Elly and I enjoyed a quiet thanksgiving together and then celebrated a grand birthday at the Varsity Theater with some really great company. Today, I had time to study Old Norse and Folklore. And tonight, I finally saw "V". Again, with great company. I am so very lucky with my friends. Tomorrow, I am going to go sailing for a bit, if the weather holds true to the forecasts.

I really enjoy all the social time; but now I feel drained and spent. I need to withdraw. I love to socialize and spend time with people, especially with people I feel such kinship, but I always feel like I have been emptied afterwards. I am going to find the Spring of Urd and the Spring of Mimir.

I see myself a vessel or a jar sometimes. Such feminine objects.

It's My Lazy Day

Well I might have gone fishin' but I got to thinkin' it over
The road down to the river it's a mighty long way
I guess it must be the season ain't no rhyme or no reason
I'm just a takin' it easy it's my lazy day

Well don't you never mind callin' cause I ain't a comin'
Just bull ride on by me and stay out of my way
Cause just a little deep thinkin' it might start me to drinkin'
And I'm a takin' it easy cause it's my lazy day
Oh well I might have gone fishin'...

I spent too much time yesterday afternoon listening to old records my Dad gave me: we used to listen to them when I was a boy. It brings back some fond memories of summer days when I was 10 years old.

but you can be happy if you've a mind to...

You scored as Old School Punk. Old School Punk as a genre formed simultaneously on both sides of the pond with Detroit and New York giving birth to bands like The Stooges, Ramones, and the MC5 while, on the British side punk bands popped up with such regularity and mayfly-esque lifespans that there doesn't exist a definitive audio record of most of them. Although some, such as the Sex Pistols, have made such an impression on popular culture that there have been movies about them.

Another wonderful day in Seattle. Lucky fellow that I am. Had espresso at Nervous Nellie's (my favorite hangout without beer), went to the Sunday Market: bought a bag of fresh, washed organic spinach. I am turning into a hippy. Walked to the Locks and just enjoyed the day. A bit of rain and wind is good for me. Weather was variable: bit of sun, bit of rain. Drinking beer tonight in the company of my lady. I don't work tomorrow: Easter Monday. Perhaps we will go dancing tomorrow night.
